In 1982, soon after moving to Lexington, KY, I discovered the beautiful Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill. The simplicity of the architectural space reminded me of Japan where I'd spent a year as a college student. I decided to photograph all the Shaker villages in different states using an old fashioned 8 X 10 inch view camera. Several curators gave me special access and allowed me to move their amazing objects into better light. Out of this work came my first book titled "Inner Light: The Shaker Legacy," and a traveling exhibit.
